Get Moving!
Everyone feeling a bit sluggish? Perhaps some of you are feeling like a puppy with the zoomies? (And yes, that is a real term)
I have been feeling a bit like the first one. Feeling a bit stiff and stagnant. So! I decided to do something different today. Normally, I would run to a yoga class when I feel like this but of course those are all closed. Then I got a message that my favorite yoga teacher was posting classes online, then another one…..the universe provided. So, I set up a little yoga space, turned on my computer and viola!! I took a class with a teacher in California while I am here in Massachusetts. I feel so much better! Technology can be an amazing thing.
The same is true for your kids. Movement is so good for you for so many reasons. Not just physically but mentally as well. It also gives us a break from the work we are doing and from all the sitting we do. It can help with getting out pent up frustration and boredom. Movement doesn’t need to take up that much time either. Just a few minutes can make a difference.
Tip #4 Get Moving!
There are so many ways to get your movement on. If you have a regular routine use that but perhaps you can add a little bit of diversity. In addition to walking, hiking or running there are plenty of options. Many companies are offering free online exercise classes such as Peloton, Body Groove, and Beach Body. There are also fitness centers all over offering classes online with the teachers that you would normally have if you went to the gym. So, check the fitness centers near you. YouTube also offers a wide variety of ways to get your exercise on. Seriously, you can find just about anything. Check out Brain Gym and Go Noodle for some kid centered fun that all of you can take advantage of. Try looking up WODs which stands for “Workout Of the Day”. These are usually geared towards those that do Crossfit type fitness. There are different workouts for each day that can be customized given current circumstances and your body’s needs. They use relatively little or no equipment and take about 15- 20 minutes.
You may also have fitness options right in your own home. Have any old exercise DVDs? Or maybe if you search hard enough, there is a treadmill, exercise bike or other types of equipment buried somewhere. I am also a fan of playing some loud music and just dancing for a few minutes, maybe a game of freeze dance could be fun. It could also be as simple as getting out of your chair and doing some jumping jacks or just wiggling in place.
Anything for any amount of time is helpful for your body and your brain
