Perhaps one way of feeling better about our circumstances is to help someone else.
A new focus for this week is to think about how your family can be of service during this time. I have often used this as a method to help pull myself out of feeling stuck. I try to recognize my blessings, show gratitude and then find a way to give back to others.
Maybe it can be putting together small care packages for family and friends or creating handmade cards to give to your neighbors or those in a nursing home. In our neighborhood, we have a little “gift fairy”. Every once in a while, when we open our mailbox, there is a lovely hand painted rock as an awesome surprise. This has been happening for about a year now. They make me smile whenever I see them.
Perhaps you can do a “drive by” celebration for someone’s birthday or other special occasion. I know some parents that have created neighborhood drive by scavenger hunts where they place items in the windows or front steps for others to see. Sort of like a more purposeful ISpy game. Many people are sharing meals and extra supplies with others in need.
Think about what could work for you and your family. It is bound to bring a smile to someone’s face and brighten everyone’s day.
